Tokay geckos are priced by their weights, the more the merrier the money will be. For example, a 4kg Tokay gecko could be sold at a price two and a half to three (2.5 to 3) times of a 2kg Tokay gecko.
Market prices for tradable Tokay gecko may vary per buyer, and they can rise and fall drastically depending on the levels of competition among traders.
There is news reported that legitimate Tokay traders from overseas are willing to pay RM1,000,000 (equivalent to US$2.9 millions) or even more for any healthy and mature Tokay gecko that has met their strict requirements.

Licenses and Permits for Tokay Geckos Trading:
Our own research (last updated 20/05/2011) shows that by far Tokay geckos are not protected by U.S. law or international treaty, and they are not listed by the “IUCN Red List of Threatened Species 2010“.
In the Philippines, anyone caught hunting, collecting or possessing wildlife, their by products and derivatives are liable under “Republic Act 9147” or the “Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001” (Source: http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=1&t=1&id=29863).
The “Department of Environment and Natural Resources” (DENR) in Davao Region warned the public against illegal trading of “tuko” or Tokay geckos. Under the wildlife act of the Philippines, any collection of wildlife species would require permits/licenses from the “Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau” (PAWB). Therefore, it is true that Tokay geckos in the Philippines require written permits/licenses from the PAWB. Anyone caught for the violation of Republic Act (RA) 9147 can be liable to a fine up to P100,000 to P1 million and a maximum imprisonment of 6 years.
If you are in Malaysia, however, under the new “Wildlife Conversion Act 2010” (Akta Pemuliharaan Hidupan Liar 2010 @ Act 716) a person will require written permits from the “Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia” (Perhilitan: Jabatan Perlindungan Hidupan Liar Dan Taman Negara Semenanjung Malaysia) before he/she can trade Tokay geckos legally in the country. Any person being prosecuted for tading Tokay geckos without valid licenses/permits, reportedly when convicted, can be liable to a fine up to RM50,000 or to imprisonment for a term up to 2 years or to both.
